Buy yoga accessories to make your yoga practice even more elegant.
Those who hear yoga accessories may think to themselves: do I even need that much equipment to practice yoga? Those with a minimalist mindset tend to buy fewer things overall and therefore fewer accessories. This is an understandable and honourable attitude.
Nevertheless, there are good arguments for yoga accessories. Our anatomy does not correspond to the anatomy of the "inventors" of yoga, many asanas are difficult for our bodies to perform. This leads many a beginner to throw in the yoga towel in frustration and say "yoga is not for me!" At Lotus Design, we want to show you ways to facilitate and expand your practice. It's worth taking a look outside the box.
The 1x1 of yoga accessories: Yoga blocks, yoga belts and co.
Anyone who has ever trained in a yoga studio will be familiar with yoga blocks. They are almost part of the basic yoga equipment, regardless of the yoga style. Because the yoga blocks always provide support where our arms or legs are "too short". They help to compensate for a lack of mobility. Once again, I would like to appeal to you not to view yoga in terms of performance. Whether a yoga practice is successful cannot usually be judged by outward appearances. Yoga is always an inner process and we should not worry so much about the external image.
Yoga belts or yoga forks are also available in every well-stocked studio today. Just like yoga blocks, they "lengthen" our arms and legs, allowing us to go deeper into the asanas. They also prevent us from overstretching or cramping. Yoga accessories, also called props, can overall help prevent yoga injuries. Although yoga offers many health benefits, injuries while practising yoga are not as rare as one might think. Especially in the beginning, many yogis imitate the outer form of the yoga teacher and thus put themselves in positions for which their body is not yet trained enough. False ambition is the cause of many a strain.
Iyengar yoga, yin yoga and other yoga styles
The world of yoga is colourful. There are many different yoga styles and always new subcategories to the major variations of yoga. Hot yoga is a good example of this. Some types of yoga, such as Iyengar yoga, are known to be particularly heavy on yoga accessories. It is even claimed that the yoga belts and yoga blocks go back to the founder of Iyengar Yoga, the Indian Grandmaster B.K.S. Iyengar. He had noticed during his teaching career that most of his European and North American students had problems taking certain asanas. Their anatomy and socialisation differed significantly from that of his Indian students. Yoga Props are thus the link between East and West!
Many props are also used in the gentle yoga styles such as Yin Yoga or restorative yoga. Because especially when the yogi has to hold a position for a longer period of time, pain can occur that prevents the desired relaxation. A yoga cushion, for example, is suitable for all asanas that are to be held for minutes. The yoga cushion also supports you in the sitting position by sitting on the edge. This way your hips tilt slightly forward and your spine can straighten up better.
Yoga accessories for (almost) every situation
Besides yoga blocks, yoga belts and yoga cushions, there are other yoga accessories that make yogis happy. So that you can bring your yoga mat safely and comfortably from A to B, we offer a wide range of yoga bags. There is a wide choice of designs and materials. Also popular, especially with minimalists, are the small carrying straps that you simply attach to your yoga mat.
Not only since the pandemic do many yogis pay attention to hygiene. Yoga towels are perfect when practising on rented yoga mats. They are easy to carry and easy to wash. They are also ideal for travelling with hand luggage only.
A yoga blanket made of pure, soft cotton warms you up when your body goes down in the relaxation phase. It can also be used as a small booster seat or as padding for your knees when they have to support your body weight on the yoga mat.
A new form of yoga is the so-called fascia yoga. This yoga focuses on the soft tissue components of the connective tissue. In order to detangle these and keep them healthy, people like to use yoga accessories in fascia yoga. The central element of every fascia yoga session is the fascia roller, but there are also other massage tools and massage balls.
Advanced and daring yogis will probably want to try the headstand at some point. Intelligent support is then offered by the headstand stool, which we also have on offer at Lotus Design.
Continue to refine your yoga practice
Yoga accessories may seem like a nice-to-have at the beginning of our yoga journey, but also somehow superfluous. We have noticed in our own practice that many props only show their true value when you have tried them out during a yoga session. Often you only feel the benefit when you have the direct comparison to "normal" practice. Many of our team members at Lotus Design share this experience. After initial scepticism and actively trying out the yoga accessories in the yoga studio, they have only really become aware of the usefulness.
For example, the relaxation phase on a yoga bolster can hardly be compared to relaxation without a bolster. Thus, practising with yoga bolsters is a real aha experience for many not-so-mobile yogis: "Ah, it can feel like that!" Where there was discomfort or even pain before, there is suddenly calm and the possibility to relax. A yoga belt can lead us to get a feeling for the first time of where the journey should go in an asana.
So despite all the scepticism about consumption, yoga accessories are in many cases a good support for the yoga practice - for beginners as well as for advanced practitioners.
